Dr John Landers is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery, diabetic eye disease and glaucoma management.
He studied medicine at the University of Adelaide and graduated amoung the top students in his class. He was awarded the Paediatric Medicine prize. Dr Landers undertook his ophthalmology training in Adelaide and Melbourne, with advanced training in the UK, Europe and the USA. He became one of Australia's foremost cataract surgeons and pioneer in the field. He was Medical Director of the Cataract and Laser Surgicentre and Chairman of the Glen Osmond Surgicentre in Adelaide.
Dr Landers has been on the teaching staff of The Royal Adelaide, The Queen Elizabeth, and Modbury Hospitals (South Australia). He was also in charge of the Glaucoma Investigation Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Dr Landers has an interest in providing ongoing medical education, and he has been a participant and invited speaker at numerous local and international conferences and has contributed to the body of scientific knowledge through the authorship of textbook chapters, editing of an ophthalmic journal and producing scientific papers. He has been part of the teaching facility of many instructional courses on cataract surgery and other areas of ophthalmology including dacryocystorhinostomy in many countries, including the USA, Thailand, Germany and France.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of the United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
