Dr Gordon Wise, the Principal of Tasmanian Eye Clinics has extensive experience in Ophthalmic Surgery, and has performed over 15,000 cataract extractions. He has published a number of refereed journals on many subjects ranging from corneal curvature to fluorescein angiography. He has been a part of Tasmanian Lions Eye Diagnostic Centre of which he was the Medical Director and holds visiting rights at Calvary Hospital, Hobart Day Surgery and St Johns Hospital.
He was for many years a visiting medical officer at the Royal Hobart Hospital running general clinic, glaucoma clinic and actively participated in the teaching of ophthalmic registrars and medical students. He is currently senior lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of Tasmania and actively engaged in post graduate education for general practitioners through the College of General Practitioners registrar training program. He has at various times also been on the board of the Royal Guide Dogs for the Blind, Anglicare and St Johns Hospital.
His principal interests are cataract surgery and corneal surgery including corneal grafting and ophthalmic plastic surgery. He maintains an active interest in teaching and is actively researching in the area of selective laser trabeculoplasty as a treatment for glaucoma.
